One night I was coming back and I was suddenly gripped by overwhelming fear that ghosts might be on the road. I was afraid but I must get back home. I started a monologue in my mind like this. If ghosts are lurking around the dark corners, my late father is stronger than a battalion of ghosts and he is walking me home. As soon as I pushed this force of thought, I was bold and no longer afraid. When I got home, I reflected on what happened.
I only realised that all those happened in the mind. So, we create and imagine in the mind and translate those thoughts into reality by accepting those intangible impulses as reality.
Later, when I read and internalized the passage below, I understood better.
The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ(2Cor 10:4-5).
We win or loose in the mind first. Once we fail to bring contrary thoughts and imaginations of strongholds under control, they control our physics. Have you seen someone who can’t go into his/her room in the dark. Some fear that they would die. Some fear that they may end up poor. Some fear that they might not succeed. Some fear other things. But the bottomline is that such fears influences their choices and preferences.
One of the ways which was also used by our Lord was using the word of God and that was what Paul referred to as taking captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. When Jesus was tempted he gave Satan a different interpretation of his posers and suggestions.
We must bring every negative thoughts and imagination to obey God. When the devil tells you that you should prepare to die, tell him that you are on your way to his burial. If he tells you that you will be poor, tell him that you have Christ who has everything. You must not allow the suggestions of the evil one to swallow your thoughts.
What happens is that the devil builds strongholds around your mind if he captures your thoughts. With the strongholds, a perpetual helplessness is guaranteed. You must squash all limiting thoughts and set your mind free.
There is nothing you need and realise that you need it and ask the Lord that you can’t have or have a better substitute.
