THE TRUNK AND THE BRANCH

One of the powerful ways of mining the benefits in the word of God is to understand the nature of Christ. This would involve investigating and understanding what Jesus meant when he said: I am the way; I am the resurrection and life; I am the bread; I am the vine; etc.

The promises, blessings and consequences of disobedience in the old testament were explicit; in the new testament, it is experiential. This means that detachment from Christ is a natural state of death like Jesus explained in the parable of the vine, vine branches and vinedresser. Attachment to Christ, on the other hand, is a continuous absorption of nutrients as we can see in the analogy of trees and branches around us.

The trunk and the branch should help us picture how we grow in the knowledge of Christ by believing into Christ, Christ being in us and the HolyGhost leading us into all truths.
